In Mastermind 17, now available for pre-order, ‘Severance’ star Adam Scott reflects on the most challenging – and most fulfilling – role of his 30-year career.
Few shows attract the level of feverish fan discussion and scrutiny as Severance, the cerebral sci-fi thriller series which finished its second season on Friday and was promptly renewed for a third.
The series’s popularity has ushered in a new era for its lead actor, Adam Scott, who plays Mark Scout, a grieving man who undergoes a controversial surgical procedure to “sever” his work and personal memories.
Scott stars on one of two covers of Mastermind 17, available for pre-order now. Speaking to Mastermind ahead of the season finale, Scott says the audience’s attention to detail has “blown away” the show’s cast and crew.
“‘Flattering’ isn’t even the right word for it. It’s beyond the expectations any of us had,” he says. “Our entire creative team zeroes in on every microdetail to make sure we get it right – because it will be examined.”
Inside the issue, he reflects on how this role is the culmination of decades of work in films and television series, including Party Down, Parks and Recreation, Big Little Lies and Step Brothers.
“This role is everything I’ve always wanted to do, and I knew it would take everything I have – everything I’ve learned over 30 years – to do it right,” he says.
