Balmain Fall 2025: Strength in Softness

It’s official: the Balmain woman has evolved. Gone are the days of overtly sexy silhouettes. For Fall 2025, creative director Olivier Rousteing embraced a new vision: one that is softer, more sensual, yet equally powerful.

In an industry where creative directors seem to change as often as the seasons, Rousteing’s 14-year tenure at Balmain has granted him a confidence that reverberated loudly on the runway last night in the Grande Halle de la Villette. 

Guests were welcomed with glasses of champagne, mingling before taking their seats in gold chairs. A serene, almost meditative pre-show ambiance set the tone, the air filled with the delicate hum of crystal bowls or perhaps the gentle ring of a finger tracing the rim of a champagne glass, an unexpectedly fitting overture.

Then, the tranquility gave way to the ethereal strains of Kate Bush’s “Cloudbusting,” as models emerged in enveloping knits and cashmere hoods. Grey mélange took center stage as the season’s defining hue, punctuated by electrifying bursts of orange, red, gold and yellow, with an unexpected twist of zebra print.

Beyond the softness, a striking armor-like fabric added an edge, a reminder that this new Balmain woman, while embracing softness, remains as formidable as ever.
