Details We Loved: Chanel Fall-Winter 2026

For the Chanel Fall-Winter ’26 show, Matthieu Blazy, whose job title is artistic director of fashion activities, presented a bombastic, colorful collection that showcased the range and savoir-faire of the maison’s atelier. Certain details shone through especially brightly.

Shiny Happy People

The Grand Palais’s iridescent floors created a sparkling runway that carried through to the models themselves. Metal mesh jacket-and-skirt sets in a tweed print shimmered lithely, while the hair of certain models shone with metallic brilliance. One orange jacket-and-skirt set worn by model Noor Khan glowed like Christmas tinsel. “I feel like I’m glowing,” Khan told Mastermind backstage. “That’s how Chanel makes you feel.”

Make it Work 

Among Gabrielle Chanel’s most influential innovations was transforming working-class garments into luxury clothing. Designers have continued to reinterpret classic workwear ever since (see Miu Miu’s aprons last season). Here, Blazy took his own cue from Chanel’s playbook, reworking an oversized workwear jacket into high-fashion outerwear. The set – which featured enormous cranes illuminated in blue, red, green and yellow – further reinforced the sense of a working world. 

Drop-Waists

A recurring silhouette throughout the show featured waistlines dropped down towards the models’ thighs. A long blue jersey dress gave way to a pleated skirt, while on another model a burgundy belt worn low beneath the hips divided her dress from a pleated miniskirt. Still, the effect didn’t feel like 1920s flapper costumes, but rather the echo of another era, roaring back to life.
